lilspacebabe asked: Hi just wanted to say that I love this blog~ Also, I'm going around on a couple different blogging platforms and asking this question because I haven't seen a whole lot on the subject, but... What do you think about the idea of sexual objectification of men? Does it exist? And on a side-note do you think the new movie "Magic Mike" objectifies men? Thanks for your time xxx

Yes objectification of men exists. Objectification exists whenever a person is treated as an object, that is, divorced from their agency. When we objectify someone it’s not possible for the person to participate in the action. We don’t consider or value their desires, perspective, thoughts. I haven’t seen the movie, so I’m not in a position to give a reliable analysis. Based on what I remember of the trailer, it seems that the storyline is about a guy who is trying to get others to see him as a full person and not just an object. So one of the themes of the movie is objectification, but the movie itself does not objectify the main character. The audience is privy to his desires, perspective, thoughts and is supposed to want the others in the movie to see him as a person, not an object.
